If you want to lose weight, especially if you want to lose weight fast -- I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Ok, it's a big secret.

To be blunt -- most weight loss diets are designed to lose weight fast giving you an unrealistic belief that you're losing Fat.

The normal concensus in the weight loss industry is to sell you on the wonders of the high carbohydrate diet -- and by drastically cutting calories -- and while avoiding fat intake like the plague. And if they can sell you a worthless supplement, gadget, or some packaged food along the way -- all the better for them.

Sadly you and I both know this is true.

Let's take a look at the proposed high carbohydrate diet to lose weight fast for a moment.

Carbohydrates are metabolized very quickly producing lots of energy in your body -- But unless you are extremely active this energy is Not utilized or burned off.

So what happens to next?

Your body converts the major excess of this energy (carbohydrates) into triglycerides -- storing them as body fat!

How many over weight folks do you know whom are extremely active, and can eat a high carbohydrate diet while achieving a slim body?

I'm sure you'll agree most overweight people are Not into Extreme Activity.

Also high carbohydrate intake causes high levels of the hormone called insulin. A high insulin levels inhibits lypolysis (fat break down)! Yes this is true. Unless you already have a relatively low body fat percentage and are extremely active the high carbohydrate diet approach is insane to use.

Will this help you lose weight fast? Of course not!

The only way the high carbohydrate diet could possibly work for you is by cutting calories alot. You know... gradually starving yourself.

Systematically cutting calories to starvation mode is a sure way of reducing thyroid function, and losing lean tissue, all of which lower the metabolic rate.

Now please understand me, you can deprive yourself of enough calories and you will lose weight. However more than 50% of the weight is lean tissue, while your fat content is decreasing, so is your muscle content -- resulting in your body fat percentage remaining about the same! You become a smaller fat person.

Will this help you lose weight fast? Of course not!

It gets worse.

Remember you now have Less lean tissue (muscle) to burn your body fat. So later as you begin to eat normally again your body PILES on the fat again.

Do you understand?

Here's the weight loss propaganda statement of the year, "Not eating fat will make you lose fat. The very opposite of this statement is true. If you have a restricted fat diet your body needs to store fat, because it is being deprived of essential fatty acids. Sure you can avoid this from occurring if you're starving yourself, but you already learned about the havoc it has on your metabolic rate -- besides you'll feel miserable in the process.

Will this help you lose weight fast? Of course not!

But why would they do that?

You spend your hard-earned money again, and again on the latest New Improved Diet Version, or Supplement, or Gadget that does no more for you than the last one they sold you!

The entire motive is keeping you fat, and selling to you repeatedly. Offerring endless weight loss diets and supplies that keeps their cash cow running full blast, but at your expense! This is extremely profitable and big business for the weight loss industry.

They love you for it!

how to lose those stubborn 10 pounds?
ive gained between 10-15 pounds in the past month, some of it is muscle but mostly fat, my level of physical fitness has diminshed, i feel sluggish, im reaching more and more for unhealthy snacks. what are some foods that burn fat fast, delicious, and dont make me feel sluggish and speed my metabolism? in a few months i will be leaving for bootcamp and i want to get a head start and get in shape before i go.

How else can i get a v shape and abs?
Okay this is more to check If I'm on the right track. I started at about 14 % BF last month and started cutting carbs fats and sugars and have been doing on average about 20 min of HITT cardio per day. I make sure to maintain a heart rate at about 150 whole on the treadmill, as I read that's where u need to be to burn fat. I use the My Fitness Pal app on my phone to keep track of nutrition. My meals are usually Breakfast: plain half scoop of oatmeal with bananna and little cinnamon(heard it can help burn tummy fat) Snack: 100 calorie almond pack and Apple Lunch/pre workout: 1/2 cup minute brown rice and 2 egg whites Post workout:pro 7 protein shake and turkey burger Dinner: plain chicken breast Snack: protein shake again I usually take in about 1500 calories, 3 g of saturated fat, 160 g of protein, 90-120 carbs and under 30 g of sugar (fruits)... YET STILL, my sides are still slightly rounded, not neccesarily love handles but not the V-shape I want. I have a big back and big shoulders and now I want the skinny waist with 6 pack. What should I do??? BTW I'm 17, 5'10, as of today, 153 pounds. Before cut I was 165, thanks

I'm 5'8", male, 24 yrs old and weigh 122 lbs but I have a huge pot belly - how should I go about losing it?
I'm skinny elsewhere on my body, so I'd best be described as "skinny fat". I've always had a protruding belly and I want to finally lose it. I've been counting calories the past few days - doing an hour of cardio 6 days a week in the gym and recording how many calories I burn each time, while also doing weight training (I used to mainly do weights and just a little bit of cardio). I also record how many calories I consume each day and try to mostly get my calories from healthy food. I make sure there's a calorie deficit each day, as I've read that this is the only way to burn fat. My waistline has been going down slightly every day, but I'm worried that if I keep losing weight (i.e. fat AND muscle), I'll eventually be chronically underweight, and I could lose all that muscle I worked hard for as well as making myself seriously ill. I've read that some people say if you just keep putting on muscle through strength training and eating a high-protein, low-fat diet, your fat will eventually burn off anyway because your muscles will need the fuel. However, this doesn't fit with the idea that you have to create a calorie deficit to burn fat, which I thought was a scientific principal. I know that one school of thought is that "skinny fat" people should put on enough weight first (whether it's fat or muscle) until they get to a weight where it's safe to create a calorie deficit and start losing weight. For me that would probably mean putting on another 35lbs first. So what should I do? Keep on with this low-calorie diet and hope for the best, or just go back to eating loads and focusing on strength training until I get to the desired weight, and THEN go on a calorie-deficit diet to lose my belly flab? @ramen: I want to build muscle and I actually do want to be heavier eventually. But right now I'm concerned with losing my belly fat. I want to lose FAT but not WEIGHT. @El Marxista: what's so funny?
