Raw Food Diet: Different Types and Their Health Benefits
Only in the small "health nut" circles has the idea of eating a raw diet been mainstream. Lately, however, it is gaining more wide-spread popularity. An increasing number of people are now promoting the variety of benefits from eating raw food.
Advocates of a raw food diet believe it is the most logical diet for humans. After all, our hunting and gathering ancestors ate a large majority of their diet in raw form. Proponents believe raw food contains enzymes and nutritional content lost in the process of cooking the food.
Types of Raw Food Diets
There are varying degrees of a raw food diet.
* Raw foodism refers to a diet without any food restrictions as long as it's raw or warmed to less than 105 degrees.
* Raw vegans consume only fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, sprouts and legumes, and no animal products (meat or dairy).
* The Raw Paleolithic Dieters eat meat, organ-meats, fruit, vegetables, honey, nuts, fish, shellfish, and eggs. They exclude dairy, grains, legumes and vegetable juices from their diet.
Within their food restrictions, they all require that at least 75 percent of foods in the diet are eaten raw, or are warmed to a temperature of no more than 105 degrees prior to eating.
Benefits of the Raw Food Diet
* One of obvious benefits of a raw food diet is weight loss. As most raw food dieters eat only plant foods, fewer calories are usually consumed. The diet is also usually low in fat, unless a large amount of seeds and nuts are eaten regularly.
* Improved digestion is also a benefit of eating a raw food diet. This is due to the digestive enzymes present in raw foods, allowing the body's own enzymes to maintain their focus on regulating it's metabolism. People who complain of a low metabolism may benefit from eating more raw food. Others who complain of digestive issues such as acid reflux may also benefit.
* Those on the raw food diet often report an increase in energy. The body doesn't have to work as hard to produce enzymes, as they already exist in the raw food. They also tend not to combine proteins and carbs in the same meal which slows digestion and zaps our energy.
* The downside of eating cooked food in which the enzymes have been destroyed makes digestion more difficult. This could lead to toxins accumulating in the body, obesity and chronic disease.
* Raw foods contain beneficial bacteria and other micro-organisms that benefit the immune system and digestion by increasing the healthy gut flora in the digestive tract. You may have heard of taking probiotic supplements to achieve the same thing.
The raw food diet may sound like a life of deprivation to some, but it is not as limiting as one might think. Advocates believe there are a number of benefits backed up by scientific evidence. Try incorporating more raw food with each meal and experience the benefits yourself.
For example, try adding fresh fruit with breakfast, fresh cut vegetables at lunch, nuts and seeds for a snack and a salad at dinner. Experience for yourself the benefits of eating foods the way nature presents them.

please help this calorie counting teenager?
Im a 15 year old girl looking for some advice. I've been dieting since about 12, when I relized that I was very fat at 140 pounds with average height. At first i hated myself so much i just decided to not eat anything at all after about 2 days at that, i just decided to skip a couple of meals like breakfast(which i would tell my mom i didnt have "time" to eat) and eat little lunch. Then, i started the research. I bagan a more healthy weight loss just but switching to whole grains, eating more fruits and veggies, and i even tried the special K diet.I got my weight down to around 117 starting freshman year. But then i relized that i wanted faster results and i switched to a 1000 calorie diet freshman year, i havent stopped for 2 years. I eat EXTREMELY healthy for a 15 year old along with only 1000 calories, on an avergae day im never full and always waiting for the next chance to eat, after all this time my stomach has shrunken and i run on little food but it has affected my body, im quite cold, i lost my hormones a.k.a. my period, and my metabolism is so low, Over the summer I worked out a lot and got down to 108 pounds at 5 feet 4 inches. I looked like a model and i was so happy, but now Im 120 and im pissed off that i cant keep it off while still at 1000 cal a day. I hate having to eat this little a day and i hate myself, i dont know who to tell or what to do to eat more but not get so FAT. My worst fear is getting back to my old ugly fat self that ive been running to hard from for so long. If anyone actually cared to read this i just want some advice, ive never told ANYONE this and i dont plan on doing so, its just so frustrating sometimes, what i wouldnt give just to have a grilled cheese sandwhich or penut butter and jelly again without feeling gross and guilty..... help?
I eat 5 small meals a day at 200 calories each to keep my metabolism up

is a 1000 calorie diet too low? please read description for body info.?
Hello!
I am an 18 year old female, I weigh about 8 1/2 stone and i'm 5'6. I've spent most of my childhood eating rubbish and not really doing much exercise so now i'm trying to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
I'm aware that i am not overweight or fat or anything like that but I do have curves in the wrong places. This isn't a 'pity me, i want to be thin' scenario as that is not the case! I am just eating healthy, eating less and exercising a little more to tone up my body and get the curves where they ought to be! :)
So anyway, my question is, my BMR is around 1400 (I am lead to believe this is the amount of calories I burn from being alive and my body working etc so it is my daily recommended calorie intake, NOT 2000 - sorry if that is not how BMR works ) so is 1000 calories too little in order for me to aid the toning and cleansing of my body?
Also, if you could also answer this you would be even more of a star. Weight loss (remember im only talking about a little, my usual weight is 8 stone) occurs when you burn more calories than you eat, right? So, if I am eating 1000 calories a day and burning 1500, is that a 500 calorie deficit or do i also have to take into account that I am then missing an additional 400 calories from eating 400 calories less than my recommended daily amount?
Hope this makes sense.. thank you very much! :) x
sorry! probably should have mentioned that im a vegetarian, so I find it quite difficult to eat healthy foods in proper portions, and also that i don't feel comfortable eating more than 1400 calories a day anyway because then i'd be eating more than i need. My exercise level is fairly relaxed, i do some yoga, muscle exercises mainly on my lower body and then have fun on the wii fit! :) x
