This type of dieting usually does not lead to prolonged weight loss and can actually hurt our health rather than help our bodies become healthier.

With the South Beach and Atkins trends in the past several years, many potential dieters are under the assumption that in order to lose weight, they must cut out all carbohydrates. In reality, it is the type of carbohydrate you eat that makes a difference. While simple carbohydrates such as sugar and white flour can spike the body's blood sugar levels and leave the dieter feeling lethargic, complex carbohydrates give our bodies its energy. Consuming whole grains is an excellent way to consume carbohydrates that benefit our bodies.

The same rules apply to fats. The truth about fat is that our bodies actually need it in order to survive. The key is eating good fats such as nuts, olive oil and flax seed instead of animal fats.

By doing simple things such as reading food labels before dec iding what to eat to lose weight can make a huge difference in the amount of calories a person eats in a day. Many foods have hidden calories in them that you may not even realize your are consuming them if you do not read the labels.

Losing Weight? Diet? 13?
I am 13 years old, I am approx 150cm tall. I weigh about 8 stone. Is this normal, I am not fat, but compared to the other girls in my grade, I am not skinny. How can a 13 year old lose weight, but still keep in mind the fact that I am still growing. I don't really care about my actual weight, I just want to loose some fat on my stomach and thighs. Please help me! How can I get sexy and skinny?! :O Extra details I want to add, I am a girl, and yes, I am in middle school. Any advice, thanks but my Mom doesn't want me to lose weight, she says I am fine and it is unhealthy to lose weight at my age. I know it is, but I feel so unhappy with myself. So any ideas where I can lose weight in private so my Mom wont know... Thanks

I know what to do but can't stay motivated!?
I know why I need to do to lose weight, diet and exercise blah blah blah. I just need to stay motivated to do so! I see exercise as a chore, it's boring, how can I make it more enjoyable? My family is on the larger side as they enjoy less than healthy food. I keep asking them to buy healthy as I cannot buy it myself. How am I supposed to achieve my goal if I can't stay motivated? There are too many temptations around the house! Help me, I'm a 16 year old guy who doesn't look massively fat but feels it. I want to lose about 30 lbs ASAP. How long will it take? So how do I stay motivated to lose the weight and how long for? Thanks :D

How to lose weight... (diet plan)?
I am about 165 and 5'8, so I am at the higher range of the "normal" weight for my height but I would rather lose some so I am in the middle range. I don't have a lot of time to exercise but really feel like I need to lose weight so my confidence will go back up and seasonal depression won't hit so bad this year. I go to college and have a meal plan, which makes dieting hard. If I eat oatmeal (one serving) every morning, a big salad during lunch and vary my suppers (pasta or sandwich? )will I by chance lose weight? I try to drink a lot of water also. & I am vegetarian and don't eat seafood or fish either, so if you want to give me ideas leave meat out please :) I just really need to lose weight, but I have never been able to and I need help. Thanks!
