I've been trying to lose weight, but my thyroid disorder is getting in the way. Diet and exercise isn't doing the trick. Are there additional vitamins and or supplements that I should be taking to help move the scale? I take Levothyroxine.

should I change my diet?
I am currently on an intense diet, and from what I've read its un healthy but I have two reasons for change 1. I'm moving from america to japan which has a much lower daily calorie intake. 2. I am over weight. my current stats are 6'3", 265lbs, little exercise beyond my physically intense job. my current diet a bowl of soup either a 360 calorie ramen or a vegetable miso bowl near 400cal for breakfast, 8 metabolism and muscle repairing vitamins and supplements, water instead of food when im hungry until 6pm that's when I eat a small bowl of rice with spices making my daily intake around 700cal. when I do work out I wear a combination of weighted clothing and thick sweats to cover them. when I do that I double my intake of calories to 1400 and work ou like that for 4-6 hours. I am comfortable with this but am curious what others would say about it. I would appreciate actual opinions not links with my natural metabolism plus the pills, I metabolize at 3 to 4 times the normal amount. my original caloric intake was close to 4000 calories a day my goal is to reach 150-180lbs, by next new years. I know i will reach this rapidly with my current approach but if you can suggest a better way I will adjust my methods but I will continue the weighted training. (130lbs currently)

Vitamin & Supplement Do "Brands" Matter?
My Sister is ill and has been told by her GP that she should start taking multivitamin and fish oil supplements to help maintain her overall health. She is unable to get out so I said I would get them for her. We live in the UK at the moment and I had a look on the internet there seems to big such discrepancy in the price. Surely the quality of the ingredients are the same, isn't Vitamin X is the same no mater what brand it is? I've read that fish oil is a little more complicated some can contain mercury and other contaminants due to sea pollution. Does the price and brand name matter when your choosing vitamins and supplements? What brand do you use if you use them? To Darren I think I will buy the cheaper vitamins and use the money saved to get her a "good" fish oil supplement. She does eat fish but she has not been eating much as she is sick. I did some reading and some brands of fish have a label on them that means they have been tested and is free from contaminants. I think the oil comes from farmed fish and thus isn't exposed to sea pollution. As for flax seeds I had already read that fish oil contains two omega-3s that are especially important: EPA and DHA were flax seed oil only has one.
